Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder affects millions of people worldwide. For some people who suffer from ADHD, management of the symptoms and the lifestyle character traits often associated with ADHD can be as simple as finding the best medical and/or psychological treatment regimen. Even with the best psychological and medical treatment regimen, people who suffer from ADHD still have to do their share of working to overcome, and learning to compensate, for the effects of ADHD. What follows are some of the ways in which my own life and I'm sure the lives of others who suffer from ADHD have been affected

Most people who suffer from ADHD are often very impulsive. We tend to say exactly what's on our mind at any given time, we tend to be very impulsive when we are shopping, often not even paying attention to our purchases of everyday items such as clothing, groceries, and other products we use in our daily lives. I once went to Wal-Mart with the intention of buying Christmas presents for my family and friends. Because of my ADHD, I bought my normal everyday household items and not even the first Christmas Present for anyone.

Sometimes the impulsiveness of ADHD can lead to troublesome situations. I once knew a fellow ADHD sufferer. This guy was one of the most honest, decent, all around good guys you would ever want to meet. This guy was bored one day in the store due to his ADHD, and stole a laptop computer. Luckily, the guy had no prior record, and the charges were dropped. After that incident, the guy learned of ways to compensate for his boredom.

For me, one of the biggest complications of ADHD is the constant feeling of responsibility. Whenever I hear of something that goes wrong in the lives of my family and friends, I often think to myself or out loud that if I had done this, or if I had done that, or if I had changed this, or that, then whatever it was wouldn't have happened.

Charlie, very good article. So true when you say your "true" friends and family will understand. My son at 10 was diagnoised with ADHD and on meds. Now at 24 we find out he is Bipolar. We as a family try to support in all we can and let him know we love him even when poor choices are made.

Encouraging article for other sufferers Charlie but I can't help chuckling at AC's related themes, especially cat illnesses. Did I miss the part about your cat having ADHD?
