Actor James Denton Tours the State of Iowa

During a campaign, people knock on doors all the time to garner support for a particular candidate or cause. Some neighborhoods are more famous and historical then others. Well, apparently former U.S. Senator John
Edwards did some canvassing out on Wisteria Lane and he got the support of a famous plumber. That's right. Actor James Denton, who plays plumber on the hit ABC show Desperate Housewives, will be touring the state of Iowa with Edwards' oldest daughter Cate. This is hoped to give Edwards a boost in fundraising and activism on college campuses given that Denton will be making stops at both The University of Iowa in Iowa City and to Iowa State in Ames.

Denton himself has contributed $2,300 to the Edwards campaign and has worn John Edwards for President t-shirts to a red carpet event or two. James and Cate will be doing a little tailgating at the homecoming football game rooting on the Hawkeyes and the in the Memorial Union meeting some Cyclones on September 30th. For a full list of the events and times check out James Denton's official website which are listed under the News section.

Denton was born and raised in Tennessee so it is unknown whether the endorsement will mean much in the big scheme of actually getting caucus goers out to vote. The disappointing thing about the appearance is that James and Cate will not be staying for the game itself as they have to appear at Coe College on the same day. If nothing else maybe it could get some people who watch Desperate Housewives at least involved in more civic duty.

John Edwards certainly has a presence and a campus office in Iowa City just a few blocks off the main campus on Burlington Street. The technique of bringing Mr. Denton in is one of the unique ways that the Edwards camp is trying to get their message out to the people. Earlier in the week an Edwards supporter and local union member drove a race car at the Knoxville raceway that was sponsored by the Edwards campaign. Edwards has had to at least begin considering the possibility of having to accept public financing to bolster his bid.
