Decorations house beneficial bacteria. This bacteria is actually really good. You do not want to get rid of it. If you leave the colony in your fish tank you will not have as many fish related problems. This bacteria helps to fight off bad bacteria and it keeps your fish nice and healthy. When you over clean your fish tank you will notice that your fish might start to become stressed out and sick. This is because you cleaned your fish tank, too well.
Decorations will also provide your fish with safety. They will not be stressed out as much because they know that they have somewhere that they can go. The fish can hide inside the decorations if they want or need to. If you have a fish without any decor in your tank you will notice the fish pacing, racing around the tank. The fish is very stressed out because in nature these fish need hiding places. Without a hiding places could mean death for your fish at any given time and this is what they think as well.
