Corregidor is extremely rich in history which ranges from the Spanish's arrival and conquering of the Philippines to the Americans arrival to the invasion of the Japanese. Corregidor is located at the mouth of Manila Bay and is shaped like that of a tadpole which is interesting to say the least. It's a small rocky island located in the Philippines which is almost 30 miles west of Manila. The island is commonly referred to as "The Rock" due to its stony terrain.

Corregidor is an excellent vacation destination for those looking for a historical site. There are many places to visit such as the Pacific War Memorial, Eternal Flame of Freedom, Malinta Tunnel, Filipino Heroes Memorial, Spanish Lighthouse, Aviary and Theme Park, gun emplacements, Filipino-American Friendship Park as well as the Barracks ruins.

Visitors looking for lodging can do so at Corregidor Hotel. The hotel has a restaurant where a tourist can enjoy a good meal, bar, tennis and basketball courts, pool, souvenir shop and the hotel is a short distance from the beach as well as the wharf.

The island itself is separated into 3 sections. The first one is the main part of Corregidor which is referred to as the Topside where one can locate the war memorial, headquarters, barracks, lighthouse, Eternal Flame, parade grounds, golf course and all the key gun emplacements. The second section is where one can find the ruins, campsite as well as the Aviary and bird park. This is referred to as the Middleside. Finally the last one is called the Bottomside where one can locate the General MacArthur Park, the hotel, administrative building, the San Jose Chapel as well as the General Wainwright Park.

Tourists can take a visit to the Malinta Tunnel where audio as well as visual presentations took place during World War II. These events included the exit of General Douglas MacArthur along with President Quezon. During the war, Quezon and his family left for Australia and later to the United States.

Visitors can tour Corregidor Island by way of a boat that is motorized or have a bit of fun hiking through the hills along with the forest.

Thanks Sharkbytes. If you haven't watched The Great Raid on DVD, I highly recommend it. I have the 2 disc version that has loads of extras on it including the entire history behind the Bataan Death March.
