The Red Knob Starfish is a wonderful invertebrate that you can add to your aquarium. It will help to keep your saltwater fish tank nice and clean. It will move around and eat all of the uneaten food off of the bottom of your fish tank. Sometimes it will not come out during the day and it will then come out at night in search of food. A lot of the time it will bury itself in the sand and remain there. This is one way that the starfish will hide from predators. The Red Knob Starfish is red in color and has spines all over it which are very hard and pointy. This starfish is not a good choice for you if you have a small fish tank. This starfish will often times reach over 10 inches in length which means that you will need at least a 55 or 75 gallon tank to keep the Red Knob Sea Star. You will also want to have at least four inches of sand or substrate in your aquarium for the Sea Star to bury itself in. You can always purchase more sand from a pet store near you or you can purchase more online if you want to go that route. You will just need to make sure that there is enough sand or the Red Knob Starfish will get stressed out because it feels as if it doesn't have anywhere to hide.
This Starfish will need to be in a salinity which is around 1.022 to 1.026. You will also need to keep the temperature somewhere between 73 to 76 degrees. You can keep the temperature from getting too cool by purchasing a heater or you can keep the water from getting too warm by purchasing a chiller. You will also want to make sure that you don't leave your light on for too long during the day because this will heat up your water. You will only need the light to be on for about six hours while you are home so that you can enjoy the fish tank.
With the Red Knob Starfish you will want to remove it if you are planning on medicating the fish tank. You cannot leave the Starfish in the fish tank or it will get stressed out and die. You must remove all of your invertebrates and place them in a different aquarium with a light and heater. You cannot just pull out the fish because the disease is in the water as well. This means that you will need to treat the water as well as the fish.
