There are many different snails that you can purchase for your saltwater tank. Most of these snails will cost you around one dollar a piece. There's one snail which is known as the Porcelain Snail. It has a very shiny shell and it often comes in several colors such as brown and light tan. This snail, like all other snails will stay very small, under two inches in length. This snail is very easy to care for and you won't need to purchase supplements or buy the snails twenty types of saltwater food. The Porcelain Snail will eat algae and different types of uneaten food. If you don't have an extra food or algae in your fish tank you can always purchase seaweed to place in your tank for the snails to eat. You will want to keep the salinity at around 1.022 to 1.026. You will also want to keep the temperature at around 73 to 76 degrees. You can purchase a heater to keep your tank at 73 degrees or you can purchase a chiller which will keep your tank below 76 degrees and heat your tank as well. If you can keep the salinity and temperature at the correct level you should have no problems keeping the Porcelain Snail alive.
You will need to place the Porcelain Snail in a saltwater tank which has a lot of hiding places. You can create a lot of hiding places using your live rock. You will also want to keep at least three inches of sand in your saltwater tank so that the snail can bury itself. You can also move the live rock a little bit towards the front of your tank so that these snails can hide behind your live rock as well. Most of the time these snails will actually crawl inside of your live rock to clean it and also to hide.
This snail is peaceful and it's easy to keep alive. You will want make sure that if you are going to medicate your fish you will need to pull out your Porcelain Snails from your saltwater tank. You cannot remove the fish and treat them by themselves because you will not be treating the water which is the main problem for the illness to begin with. You will need to treat your fish in the tank and remove all of your invertebrates. If you do not remove the Porcelain Snail is will get stressed out and die after a short while.
