She sits quietly along side the now silent river
The moon has risen high and a chill kisses the air
The smell of damp fallen leaves
And a burning desire fill her heart
She came to this place to be free.
If only for moments, they were her moments
She intended to enjoy every one.
The memory of the rage she had felt
Drifts away on silent waters
Stars wink and dance with the promise of a better tomorrow,
The scent of the leaves now almost heady,
These things intoxicate her,
Carry away her cares,
In that moment, She is free,
She feels her spirit soar,
Her imagination comes alive,
She closes her eyes,
He stands there, a flicker in a dream,
His smile caresses her,
She trembles as he whispers her name,
She tingles under his touch.
All just moments,
Fantasies ne'er to be true
But a sigh and a whisper, they carry her through
In the light of day She again will stand tall and proud
They have shaken her t o her roots,
Left her heart bruised and scarred
But she will rise because it is all she has ever known...
