The Sims 2 is an excellent game. Most video games that did well with their original release will also do well with expansions and sequels, and this game is no exception to that rule. I ignored the release of the game for quite some time in order to see whether or not the price would go down. It dropped from what I believe was a list price of $40 or $50, to its current average $40 for the 'deluxe' version, which features an additional expansion pack at 'no extra charge'. I, myself, purchased the "Limited Edition" pack which includes the Sims 2, the Sims 2 Nightlife Expansion pack, and the Sims 2 Bon Voyage expansion pack. The entire deal, plus New York State sales tax, cost my about $55.

Money aside, the Sims 2 graphics have not changed much from what I remember of the original. There are more objects, and a special new thing referred to as the "Aspiration meter", which is a fun way to keep your Sims 'on track'. They get the options to purchase special objects if their aspiration meters max out, and they have a lifetime goal aspiration which they all try to achieve, depending on their interests which are chosen when they become adults. It sounds confusing, but it's not too bad of a set up, once one gets used to it.

The Nightlife expansion pack gives an entirely new dimension to the Sims 2. What became boring after an hour or two with the original game is now addicting to hours on end. When you tire of reminding your Sim not to set the house on fire, and to eat, and sleep, and go to work, you can take them out on either group or date outings to 'downtown'. You are allowed to build your own establishments - restaurants, night clubs, and bowling alleys - and these come ready made with people to staff them! The best part is, of course, that one, sample Downtown, comes pre-made for you.

All in all, the Sims 2 is an extremely addicting and fun game. It is a game which can be played while doing homework, but can also be played in a way that encompasses all of your thoughts and energies. The artificial intelligence aspect of the Sims has always allowed for that freedom, which makes it a great way to kick back and relax, read a book, and be amused at the same time.
