If you followed Fall Fashion Week recently, you might be a little confused about this season's fashion trends. Fashions seemed to be all over the map. Designers were showing everything from mini dresses reminiscent of the 60's to retro chic tailored pencil skirts that were popular in the 40's.

There were soft, flowing chiffons, silks, and satins and opulent brocades. Crisp cottons and linens were matched with soft, textured wools and tweeds. Leather and fur continued to be important, with an emphasis on patent and animal skins like snake, croc, and even ostrich also thrown into the fray.

The good news is there is really is something to suit just about any woman's personal taste, style, and body. No matter what you choose for Fall, 2007, chances are you will be right on trend. However, to narrow things down for those who might be preparing to shop for fall and winter, let's talk about the most important trends.

If you are just looking for jewelry to polish up your existing look, I hope you will check out my article "The Must Have Jewelry Pieces for Fall, 2007." If you just need some new accessories to complete the fashions you have already purchased, then look for my upcoming article "Accessory Necessities for Fall, 2007." For the purposes of this article, let's focus on those all important garment choices.

Volume is everywhere this fall and winter. Expect to see voluminous coats, dresses, and collars. Almost everything about this season is some form of retro look. Military cuts and urban warrior designs are also in style. Designs also include hints of art deco as well as victorian. Sound confusing? I agree. However, that is often the way of fashion.

Colors are also all over the rainbow, but there is a large emphasis on jewel tones like shades of red, blue, and purple. Earth tones will be popular as well, ranging from a soft flesh tone peach to a rich chocolate brown.

Solids, prints, and geometric designs will all be popular. But prints will be much larger than was seen in the spring and art deco design is extremely hot.

Sadly, the pencil skirt does NOT work for all body types (I am a living example of that...). I saw a great charcoal pantsuit with a rose "broken line" pinstripe that I'm thinking of getting - had a great cut, too, and the price was right. People investing in this season's clothes MUST remember body type! If you don't have a waist anymore, don't draw attention to it with a belt! Please, choose an empire waist, or no waist - you'll look so much better that way! And if you have a large posterior, don't emphasize it with a short jacket (this breaks my heart - I love short jackets, but my behind says NO to that!). Buy pants with some stretch, no matter what cut you choose, and it will be more flattering (and most of the new fabrics are throwing in some spandex, so it won't be hard to find). All your advice is great, Charlie -- I just always feel compelled to add that one more thing! Sorry! (:
