The Economics of Racial Hatred

Racial hatred exists. It exists around the world. It exists in America.

The recent Jena Six and copycat incidents only bring to our attention a reality recognized, realized and lived by millions of minorities each and every day, even from birth.

When we hear the terms Racial Hatred, we immediately think of Black and White racial tension. To be sure, in America, this tension continues despite the Movement of the 60s, despite the Civil Rights Acts, despite Equal Opportunity.

Racial Hatred is not limited to Black and Whites. Those of the Jewish race have been hated, persecuted, despised and distrusted, not for years, but rather for centuries. They have been hated by Christians Whites, Blacks, Muslims, Nazis, communist around the world. Turks hate Syrians. Serbians hate Croatians. Shiites hate Sunnis. The rich hate the Poor. Each is an example of Racial Hatred as assuredly as there was a holocaust and apartheid.

Racial Hatred is all about the inclusion and exclusion of Us and Them. It is about those that belong and those that don't. While we in America supposedly celebrate diversity, we are acutely aware of those who are like us and those who are not. And this awareness, this realization, this mental inclusion-exclusion is the basis for all Racial Hatred.

We human beings find differences between each other and segregate our exclusions based on these differences. This is done not on a rational basis, but rather on an emotional basis of fear. We fear those not like us as we know what our "kind" has, is allowed, is permitted and these constraints make up our territory - our world.

To allow another group, race, religion, ethnicity into our territory would be to allow them to have that which we have. And there is not enough to everyone. In our modern, industrialized society, that which we protect so desperately is the basis of the Economics of Racial Hatred. Our territory is an economic territory composed of our jobs, our homes, our money and our opportunities.

Good article. I would just note that it spoke more about racism still existing more than it's economical impact.
