Although the Holiday Season is still two months away, it is not too early to begin thinking about making some lovely gifts for those on your gift list. While some people may scoff at home-made gifts, if done properly and with some thought, they will probably bring the most joy to the receiver.

It's easy to buy gifts from a store. Many people rush out to do their Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving to "get it over with." Others wait until the very last minute and are running around picking up gifts that no one else wanted to buy the day after Thanksgiving. Each year, Americans spend millions of dollars buying Christmas gifts that are being returned on December 26th. Not only does it take all of the joy out of giving, it makes Christmas time a stressful and expensive time of the year.

Making a gift for those on your list can be creative, fun and will most likely come from the heart. To begin with, make a list of those people who you wish to give gifts. Next to their name, write some things about the person, such as what he or she enjoys. If you don't know this, why are you bothering giving them a gift? For the people you don't know and feel compelled to give a gift, do yourself a favor and get them a gift card to Walgreens. There is sure to be something there they can use.

Hopefully you know something about the likes and dislikes of someone you actually care about who is on your holiday gift list. Rack your brain and try to come up with two or three things the person likes. Then do the following:

1. Start collecting small items to make up a gift basket. For example, a teenager on your list, who is not related to you and will not expect you to spend thousands of dollars on them, will love a gift basket containing magazines, small lotions or perfumes, fun socks, cheap jewelry, hand held games, small make-up items, books, disposable cameras, candy, and sundry items. Begin now collecting such things and keep them in a large paper bag labeled with the person's name. Each time you go to the store, pick up a few items to add to the bags. By mid-December, you should have enough to make a nice gift basket that is sure to delight anyone.
