Annie Lennox is probably best known for her 80's hit "Sweet Dreams" when she was the other half to the Eurythmics. She has one of the most distinct voices in pop culture today. She returns to the scene with her stunning fourth solo album Songs of Mass Destruction.

The opening track is a powerful song titled "Dark Road" and is also the first single from the collection of songs. Her voice haunts you as she sings about having "an open door to her heart" and there's a dark pathway to it. Troubled and trying to show strength from being beaten and bruised, she sings "Maybe I'm still searching but I don't know what it means/ All the fires of destruction are still burning in my dreams/ There's no water that can wash away/ This longing to come clean."

The next track "Love is Blind" is an uptempo smooth song with a touch of blues. This track shows off Annie's versatile vocals following up with an organic ballad "Smithereens." These two show off a lighter side of Annie amongst the heavy hitters.

One of the standout tracks is "Lost." She painfully sings "Tell me the story 'bout when you were young/ I want to hear it again/ Leave in the parts where the hero gets stung/ I want to savor it/ I want to play it again." "Big Sky" brings a mid-tempo song of finding herself again. What Annie Lennox sings on this record is none she's done before. Her delicacy and power is much more striking than previous work and shows growth once again.

"Coloured Bedspread" can take you back in a day where she was teamed with David A. Stewart. The track reminds us of a Eurythemics generation vocally and musically with the synth instruments.

Songs of Mass Destruction contains "Sing," an anthem in support of people affected by HIV/AIDS.
