Many parents make the mistake of not dating for the sake of their children. Many parents do not want to add difficulty into their child's life by introducing a friend into their life others do not know how to incorporate the friend into the already secure parent-child relationship and some parents feel guilty forming relationships with others. For whatever reason, not dating may do more harm to children than dating. Parents do not realize that after separation when they do not date they are sending their children deceptive ideals of reality, because the child was raised in a two-parent family home, they might find it hard to grasp the idea of having their mother and father date other people, and so when parents do not date awhile after the divorce children hold false hope of mommy and daddy getting back together, often times children have to be able to see that mommy and daddy will not be getting back together. Refusing to date is also not healthy for the parent who conceals and denies the feeling of lonesomeness for the sake of the child, if parents feel the urge to get out and meet someone then they should be able to do so.

Tips on Single Parent Dating

Sit down and have a talk with your child about dating. It is important to be straightforward, clear and honest with your child, do not let them feel as though that you and the other parent will be getting back together if you have no plans to. This talk can get heavy and may even involve tears, yelling, and hurtful words but prepared to coax your child. You should inform your child if the dating relationship becomes more serious.

Dating is a friendship with potential of serious relationship and you should treat it just as that, mention to your date that you have a child, who is very dear to your heart but don't get too deep about the family situation.
