Law in Hawaii" meeting will be taking place on October 4th from 12pm-1pm at the Supreme Court in Honolulu, Hawaii.

According to national statistics, nearly 50 percent of marriages end in divorce. This number may even be higher; for example, the New York Times reported a divorce rate of 60%. Whatever the number, divorce is on the rise and "until death do us part" is now "until we don't like each other." Whereas divorce used to be a taboo practice in society, it has now become commonplace in many countries, including the United States. One exception would be the country of Malta, where divorce is illegal.

Should you or someone you know in Hawaii be facing the possibility or certainty of a divorce, the "Divorce Law in Hawaii" monthly program might be for you. Each meeting is held at the Hawaii Supreme Court courtroom at Aliiolani Hale, 417 South King Street.

Attendees will get information on the steps in getting a divorce, child custody and visitation rights, child support, the splitting of property, etc. Most of the talks will be by Attorney William Darrah, who has been practicing divorce law for more than three decades. According to a Hawaii State Judiciary press release, Darrah is "a trained divorce mediator, arbitrator, and settlement master, and the editor of the Hawai`i State Bar Association's Hawai`i Divorce Manual and Journal of Hawai`i Family Law." The press release also states that "he has taught numerous family law education programs to Hawaii's judges, lawyers and members of the public since 1979."
