Identity Theft and Your Unused Email Address
How Your Email Address Can Be Used for Identity Theft

As in my situation, I had an email address that I quit using after I divorced my ex. He knew my password, and the email address was one that we shared, but the email address was in my name, and all of my information. Nothing on there was actually his. When someone told me that this can in fact happen, I decided to try to get into all of my old email addresses.
As with most email servers, if you leave an email unused for long periods of time, they automatically delete. Netscape is usually in thirty days. Yahoo takes longer.
I have been having lots of trouble with identity theft. Unfortunately, they are things like cell phone bills, in states I have never lived in, but my ex has. When I saw these on my credit report, I started to call them and wanted to tell them, hey this isn't mine. These were all under my social security number. However, all of them were not under my name. There were cell phones in Alabama, Tennessee, and New York. All the places where my ex has been living, as he doesn't know where to stay. He jumps from one state to another and back and forth.
They all refused to tell me the name that these cell phones were under, but of course if I was to give them my address they would be happy to send me a copy of the bills. ARE YOU CRAZY??? Giving them your current address is like saying, okay, send me the bills, I am stupid. If you have them send the bills to your name and your address, you are now responsible for these bills. Never fall for that. These places don't care who they get the money from, and they will try to get it from anyone anyway that they can.
