Weddings are expensive. Starting a new life with the one you love is expensive. Taking time off of work for a wedding and more time off of work for a honeymoon is expensive. While some of us are fortunate enough to have the wherewithal to have it all and the European honeymoon as well, most new coupled find themselves scrimping and saving, and going into debt trying to have it all. There are, however some excellent ways to save money on your honeymoon that won't even for a moment detract from the time you and your guy spend together exploring the newness of being husband and wife. Here are a few ideas for you:

How many opportunities are there for vacationers in your hometown that you never take advantage of unless you have a friend visiting from out of town? I live in a small town on Vancouver Island British Columbia, arguably one of the most incredible places on earth to enjoy the great outdoors. Two blocks from my house is a river, 8 blocks away is the Straight of Juan De Fuca. There is a mountain with a ski resort 25 minutes away. We have a glacier that feeds our water supply, a one day hike from here. Two miles away is the entrance to Strathcona Park, a half million acre wildlife preserve. Forty five minutes north or south are some of the most incredible cave systems on earth, some of which have not even been fully explored. There are whale watching tours that leave from Victoria harbor a mere two hours away. There are three kayak rental places within a mile of my home, and a scuba gear rental shop. There is even more, to see here, but that's not the point. I'm not inviting you to my house. I am making a point. The point is this: I have access to all of those wonderful things. Would you like to take a guess as to how many of those things I take advantage of on a regular basis? If you guessed zero, you'd be pretty close to the truth.

Takeaways
  • A hometown honeymoon offers more chances for rekindling romance later
  • We have great things around us that we never actually do
  • the honeymoon is about the who... not about the where!
