Stevia Sweetener Now Going Mainstream: Sunwin Brand Now in Common Grocery Stores on Shelves

Major retail grocery chains all throughout the United States are now stocking OnlySweet, a new sweetener which is based on Stevia. It is about 300 times sweeter then regular table sugar, and is very low on the glycemic index, making it an excellent alternative for diabetics.

Stevia has been around for ages, is a derivative of a plant which grows in South America and is currently used in place of sugars and artificial sweeteners in many countries throughout the world. Currently it has not yet been approved in the United States and Europe as a food additive, however, it is used as a dietary supplement.

Sunwin Stevia International, which is also a subsidiary of Sunwin International Neutraceuticals, is the new stevia Manufacturer of the new product, and is calling it "OnlySweet". OnlySweet is a mixture of stevia, maltodextrin and an unidentified "secret ingredient", and has been on the market since December of 2006. It is easily accessible at thousands of large chain grocery stores throughout the United States.

Stevia is reported by The Wall Street Journal to be in the works by Coca-Cola Company as well as Cargill Foods to be used in their diet drinks in replacement of things such as sucralose, aspartame and saccharine. It looks as though the American public is beginning to wake up and is starting to look for healthier food products.
