Tuscany is often referred to as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. Leonardo Di Vinci and Michelangelo were both born in this beautiful region located in central Italy. There are many museums featuring paintings, sculptures and other objects of art located throughout the region. The city of Florence has the most art galleries and museums in all of Tuscany.

Florence is the capital of the region of Tuscany and lies in the center of the region. Florence is home to the Gallery of the Uffizi, which is probably the best art museum in the world. The Uffizi contains a vast collection of statues and art from the 1300s. At this museum, you can see original works of art created by the Italian Masters, such as DiVinci, Michelangelo, Botitcelli, and Raphael, among others. In addition, the museum also has a large collection of imported art from Germany and the Netherlands, including works produced by Rembrandt.

The Gallery of the Uffizi was constructed in the 16th Century. The Uffizi is a large building shaped in a U with two storeys. The center of the Uffizi is a large square where people can walk and view the magnificent architecture of this structure.

The museum is, itself, a work of art as it maintains the aura of 16th century Italy. The large marble corridors are graced with paintings, statues and fabrics of an era long past. There are many different galleries within the Uffizi, each dedicated to a different era or group of artists. Walking across the Vasariano Corridor, one can peruse the art works while walking through this enclosed area that connects the Uffizi to the Old Palace. The Vasariano Corridor is filled with many self portraits of the Italian artists whose work is located throughout the gallery. The Gallery of the Uffizi is centrally located in Florence and is open all year long. There are guided tours available that take one through this magnificent architectural wonder and to the ancient church of St. Pier Scheraggio. The Uffizi boasts of many collections, including the world renowned Collection Contini Bonacossi. Visitors to the Uffizi are recommended to book tickets in advance.
