Ever since my dog was a puppy, I have been saving his hair. Each time I brush him, I get to add more hair to my large bag designated for saving his dog hair. This may seem strange, but he has gorgeous red hair that I cannot bring myself to throw away. Now that the bag of dog hair is bigger than he is, it is time to look for creative ways to recycle his hair. Here are some creative ideas on how you can make good use of dog hair.

Make a dog-hair dog collar! To make a dog collar you can make felt out of your dog's hair. First take a thick cloth and place a thin layer of dog hair on it. Keep in mind that when your dog hair becomes felt it will shrink. So you'll want the dog hair layers to be in shape of dog collar only wider and longer. Add another thin layer with hair fibers going in opposite direction. Continue adding thin layers of dog hair until you have felt at desired thickness. Next, soak it with extra hot water. Then start rolling thick cloth with dog hair in it back and forth. You want to roll it like a sleeping bag back and forth at least 75 times. Open cloth back up and soak it with more hot water, then roll it back and forth again. Then you can just let it dry. At this point, you will have lovely felt dog collar made out of dog hair.

Knit a dog coat out of dog hair. Did you know that you could spin dog hair into yarn? If the dog hair is 2"or longer it does not need to be mixed with any wool or any other type of hair. Knit a dog coat, scarf, or bandana for your dog. You could also knit something for yourself. Perhaps dog hair socks, dog hair blanket, or even a dog hair throw rug.

Some unusual uses for dog hair: Make dog-hair hairpieces to dress up with. This includes dog hair toupees, dog hair mustaches and dog hair beards. Hopefully, you and your dog look alike and have the same hair color! Use dog hair to stuff pillows with. Trace a picture of your dog on heavy paper or canvas. Then use glue gun to carefully glue his hair onto his picture. Frame it. How about a dog hair picture frame? You could purchase a plain frame then hot glue his hair all around the edges. Would be very cute to place a picture of fido in his furry frame. There are many uses for dog hair, and I hope you have fun with these ideas.

The PETA people will be sicced on you for this one, Rebecca! And the AC people will be totally embarrased that they "featured your content." But really though, in a way your odd sense of humor is not much differrent than David Letterman.
