As an avid writer, who was definitely affected by this authors (James Frey) use of grammar and rules of the English language, I feel the need to begin this critique/review from the perspective of a fellow writer and proofreader of modern literature and art. If you don't care to hear me analyze the novel like a perfectionist teacher then I suggest you scroll down a few paragraphs. That being said, A Million Little Pieces book almost (almost) and I must repeat ALMOST made me never want to try and break the grammar rules in writing ever again for effect and in addition it ALMOST made me lose respect for all of my favorite bookstores that had put it out on the display to push its sales, which to me, is deeming it a book of award winnable status.

How enjoyable are the following sentences to read?

I went to my work and I sat at my desk and I turned my computer on. I sat at my desk. I sat at my desk and turned my computer on. It was cold and it was quiet and it was dark. It was cold and it was quiet and it was dark. I sat at my desk.

Takeaways
  • A Million Little PIeces Book is hard to read at first, but stick it out, you'll be hooked.
  • A Million Little Pieces is a story about the pains and tribulations one goes through in rehab.
  • I still liked the A Million Little Pieces book despite the James Frey Controversy
Did You Know?
The A Million Little Pieces book was signed up to be turned into a movie. It is now uncertain whether or not the movie will still be produced, due to the James Frey controversy, but be on the lookout, as it might still happen.

I think that this book had a great message. I will agree that there were times that the writing was a little bit annoying, but it was so simple. It told a complicated story as simply as it could. I just read the book in 2007, a few years after the Oprah contreversy and whether or not every event happened, Frey overcame something great and I believe that he should be celebrated for it. I really do hope that they make a movie out of it.

I read a lot of books. I bought this one for $2. If I had paid retail price I would have wanted my money back. I never send anything back, but this book was horrible. The writing style is annoying at best. I understand his intention but I do not think he pulled it off. I hated his character and I say "character" because after researching the book I realized that hardly anything in the book is true. What a travesty that this book was a best seller and in the non-fiction category. I think it undermines writing and authors who try to write memoirs. The definition of the word, of course denotes that the contents are true. Of course, I am more upset about the book in general, not the lies.
