McKinney residents have long known what other North Texans are quickly learning about Downtown McKinney; it is an ideal stop for day-trippers in search of reprieve from the bustle of Dallas. The city motto, "Unique by Nature," only hints at the distinctive flair offered in Historic District. The variety of retailers and dining options in the area sets it apart from other Dallas suburbs. From corndogs to couture, visitors will find something to fit their tastes and their budgets while filling the weekend with family fun.

People from all over North Texas are making their way to the Historic Square to experience the unique small town atmosphere combined with exceptional shopping and dining. With over 100 retailers, annual festivals and parades, a dozen restaurants, and a friendly, down-home atmosphere, there is a little something for everyone.

"I love visiting McKinney either over night or for the day. Just a 20 minute drive and I feel I have been out of town and refreshed. There's great shopping, old and new, casual to cuisine. They have it all in Downtown McKinney," comments Dallas resident Lisa Bautz.

The drive into the Historic District takes visitors through a residential community complete with tree-lined rolling hills and century old homes. Once in the retail district, children and adults are often surprised to see the offerings which make McKinney an exceptional place for a day or a weekend visit. And it's not just for mom, dad and the kids. There's even something for the family pet.

Throughout the year, the McKinney Square is host to a crop of kids' activities including weekly camps and parent's night out. Children can venture into the world of the arts through ceramics and art classes; find great new fashions, toys, and opportunities to play dress up. Parents can even lessen their stress level with new, affordable ways to celebrate birthdays without breaking the bank.

"I enjoy the variety of shops and the charm of Downtown McKinney. I can find places I enjoy visiting as well as places my daughter likes," says local resident Greg Franks.
