Domestic Violence is Not Just a Woman's Issue

The problem with domestic violence is that for years this problem had gone ignored and brushed aside, but it was when the statistics of women who were being killed by their partners and spouses it's time that the world paid attention to this rampant problem. 95% of domestic violence victims are in fact women, but now it's transcended over into men also becoming victims of battering by their partners and spouses. The majority of the women who are victoms of battering are dealing with a complex problem which according to mental health professionals and counselors when they profile abusers they go with a stellar list of characteristics that leads to people to become abusers:

Constant state of alertness that makes it difficult for them to relax or sleep

A sense of hopelessness, helplessness or despair because the victim believes they will never escape the control of their abuser

Fear that one cannot protect oneself or one's children. This person will turn down the assistance offered by relatives, friends or professionals.

Feeling paralyzed by fear to make decisions or protect oneself

A belief that one deserves the abuse

A belief that one is responsible for the abuse

Flashbacks, recurrent thoughts and memories of the violence and nightmares of the violence

Emotional reactions to reminders of domestic violence
