Have you ever wondered why some people swear more than others? Up until now that has been a mystery. Scientists have just found out that some people have more swear glands that others. So, just what are swear glands? Scientists in Austria were studying the reasons why dogs were not able to learn language. They came across an interesting gland that seems to help mammals learn language. These glands are located all throughout the throat and up to the brain. They are very small glands, randomly placed, and easily missed by modern medicine. As they observed the functions of these glands, they realized that the dogs did not have enough of them to even learn basic languages. This is why dogs tend to bark and use body language to communicate.
Then, they decided to study the glands in humans. All they had to do was have volunteers who were willing to swallow some small cameras.
They found out that all humans have enough glands to understand at least one language. The more swear glands a human has, the more able they are to communicate in different languages. This can be a huge advantage for some people. It is a good thing for people who need to learn languages in school. It is also a great thing for foreign relations. In fact, there were even some ambassadors willing to help with the study for a day or two. They found that most ambassadors have a very high level of swear glands.
However, the drawback is that the more swear glands a human has, the more prone he is to use swear words. Thus is why extremely intelligent humans may tend to easily swear when they are angry.
Since behaviorists previously thought that swearing was simply a product of nurture, this is a huge scientific breakthrough. Swearing may be less learned and more genetic.
The Austrian scientists are currently trying to see if humans can be given any kind of medication that will reduce the tendency to swear while not reducing language use and comprehension.
