It has been three years since the release of alternative rock band Jimmy Eat World's last album, Futures. After that long period, you have to wonder if the band has lost its magic. On its sixth and latest album, Chase This Light, Jimmy Eat World is joined by classic producer Bruce Vig who has worked with Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins. Are Jim Adkins, Tom Linton, Rich Burch and Zac Lind able to live up to their fans' rabid expectations? We will see on Chase This Light.

The first single off Chase This Light is Big Casino. The song is a classic alternative song. The track is what you would expect from Jimmy Eat World. The song is not as catchy as their last mainstream hit The Middle but it is still a strong rock track in an era where few strong rock tracks exist.

Electable (Give It Up) is a more up-tempo rock track. The song is one of the catchier songs on the album. The lyrics are deep and meaningful if you can unearth them underneath the sonic masterpiece. The repetitive chorus helps to add to the strength of the song.

Carry You stars off with a mono acoustic guitar and then builds into a stereo acoustic guitar. The song is a feel good track and is very easy on the ears. The song is mellow enough but has enough rock to appeal to their core audience. The song is probably the catchiest tune found on the album.

Dizzy is different than what you would expect from the band. The song is more of a rock ballad than the rest of the album. This track helps to hold the album together and shows off Jim Adkins vocal ability.

The album closes out with the title track Chase This Light. The song is more melodic than most of the tracks on the album. It starts off mellow with nice vocal harmonies but builds into a much harder track towards its conclusion. The track is the perfect way to close off the album.

Chase This Light is a good album. It follows the direction of producer Bruce Vig, and you can hear his influence on the tracks. The album is a decent rock album for today's era. Overall Chase This Light gets 7 out of 10 stars. If you're a fan of alternative rock or Jimmy Eat World, make sure you pick up Chase This Light when it is in stores on October 16.

Worst J.E.W. album so far....I've been listening to it for a few days now. I miss the power and guitarrock off the previous albums. I just don't like it much.

I'm going to have to side with JSB. Did you even listen to this album? It sure doesn't sound like it..

The executive producer was Butch Vig, not Bruce Vig. Did you even listen to this album?
