Instead of Trick or Treating for Candy, Why Not Trick or Treat for Charity?

If you don't like the idea of your children taking candy from strangers on Halloween, why not have them trick or treat for charity instead? That way, your kids would still get a chance to have some fun on Halloween and help out charities in the process. Trick or treating for charity is also good for children who are diabetic or have food allergies.

Trick or Treat For Charity Idea #1: Unicef

Probably the most thought of trick or treat for charity idea is Unicef. Unicef has been doing the trick or treat for charity for decades. The bright orange collection box for coins are widely recognized. You can request the boxes from the Unicef web site. If you don't have enough time to request one, you could always make your own. Uncif stands for the United Nations Children's Fund and the money you collect on Halloween would be used to help Unicef fight for children's rights, development, survival and protection.

Trick or Treat For Charity Idea #2: Sight Night

Sight Night is in it's 10th year of collecting for charity. Instead of collecting cash, Sight Night wants you to collect people's old eyeglasses. The eyeglasses that you collect are repaired, cleaned and delivered in person to people in third world counties that are not able to get glasses of their own. You can request a free kit from the Sight Night web site or even print out your own materials for the kit. Since starting, Sight Night has collected over 1,000,000 pairs of eyeglasses. That's a pretty impressive number!

Trick or Treat for Charity Idea #3: Trick or Treat for Food Allergy

FAAN uses the money made from trick or treaters for food allergy education and research programs. Last year they earned more then twenty thousand dollars on Halloween from trick or treaters! You can request up to 6 trick or treat boxes online. If you've trick or treated for FAAN before, they will automatically send you a kit this year. FAAN also offers children a chance to win prizes at their web site for participating.
