There is nothing as ugly as being in debt when you are on a budget no matter how tight your budget is. The problem with being on a budget is that a lot of people don't see themselves ever getting out of debt and they fear that they will be living paycheck to paycheck for several years to come.

Remembering that you are still on a budget, there are a few things that you probably do everyday that contributes to extra spending and this is where it has to stop if you ever want to get out of debt and live a better life.

How much is everything really costing you and are you staying within your budget?

Nothing in this world is absolutely free and you first need to understand this. Even when a magazine tells you that you can get a free subscription trial offer, hesitate on this for a moment before you are pulled into being billed for a magazine that will probably sit there and collect dust along with the bill it came with for future issues. If you really don't need it, don't take the offer. This will help you with your budget if you're not paying for a magazine subscription that will add more to your debt.

Newspaper cost can add up after a while and most newspapers cost around $8, if not more, per month. If you were to cancel your subscription and borrow the neighbor's newspaper or look it up online, this would save you around $96 a year. $96 can add more money and help you in your budget and to get out of debt.

Repairing items yourself is also a great budget banker. When you have to pay someone for repairs that you can do yourself, it can cost you a per hour rate and you may not be getting a good deal. If you can't repair items yourself, consider looking for someone who could do a side job for you at a cheaper price that is within your budget.

Insurance can also be a big money saver. This doesn't mean for you to cancel your insurance, just look for the best price for what you need. Some insurance companies will try to talk you into coverage that you may not need and it wouldn't make any sense to get coverage for a tornado that will probably never hit. If you do happen to live in an area that has a lot of winter damage or tornadoes, you should think about getting coverage for this.

Takeaways
  • How much is everything really costing you and are you staying within your budget?
  • Look at your necessities and consider what is causing your debt
  • Now, take a look at the extra money and keep in mind that you are trying to get out of debt
