A beautiful location that is found in the northeastern tip mosaic province of Surigao Del Norte, Mindanao in the Philippines is an island known as Siargao. This place is not a well recognized island to outsiders and to even some that reside in the Philippines. This place is wonderful for those seeking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's location is almost 500 miles southeast of Metro Manila with an approximate size of 271 miles.

This beautiful island has gotten attention thanks to an American photographer by the name of John S. Callahan who has had many photographs published during the 1990's on this tropical paradise. The island is identified as having beautiful white beaches along with coconut palms and coral reefs that beautify Siargao.

Siargao Island is said to have the finest waves around which makes it an excellent destination for surfers. During the month of September, every year, they have what is called a Siargao Cup where there is a competition among surfers.

The island is recognized as being an excellent place for anyone who is looking to fish. The fish are extremely bountiful here and there is an amazing number of 23 types of species that are swimming about in almost 13,000 miles of seawater! If you decide to fish here, you just might find, crabs, tuna, stingrays, octopus, lapu-lapu, squid, marlin as well as mollusks.

The Siargao Island is also abundant in deposits that are metallic as well as non metallic. Metallic includes gold, chromite, laterite ore as well as lode ore. Non metallic include limestone, sand along with gravel, silica and rock phosphate.

Tourists and visitors looking for a bit of excitement on their vacation might find this in caves and tunnels that are just waiting to be explored. One can locate what is called the guano cave that you will find positioned in a mountain at a placed called Libjo. You will also find a lagoon here that not a lot of people are aware of. One can find the Suhoton Cove only while the tide is low and it is located at Bucas Grande Island.
