Doctor Who Season 3 Finale

The Doctor Vs. The Master

Doctor Who, a BBC television program, currently available on cable's Sci-Fi Network, Fridays at 7 pm Central Time, has its third season finale this coming Friday, October 5th. The show, which began in November of 1963, took a nine-year hiatus beginning in 1989 before returning to
television four years ago under the watchful eyes of writer and producer Russell T. Davies. When the show returned Christopher Eccleston, better known to American audiences for his role in Gone in 60 Seconds, or his brief stint on the television series Heroes its first season as the Invisible Man, Claude, who tries to teach Peter Petrelli how to use his powers, was the newest Doctor. Joined on his adventures by Rose, played by former British pop singer Billie Piper, the Doctor and Rose traveled time and space fixing problems and fighting monsters and aliens. Eccleston signed on for only one season and his replacement, David Tennant, has filled those shoes wonderfully.

Tennant, best known for his small role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Barty Crouch, Jr., has become a full-fledged celebrity in Great Britain, although he remains unknown to most Americans, as does his show. Doctor Who has been a phenomenon in England; spawning hit songs, parodies, toys, collectibles, and every imaginable piece of pop culture item. The third season was kicked off with a guest appearance by Catherine Tate, a lovely comedic actress with her own sketch comedy show The Catherine Tate Show in Britain. The first episode, Smith and Jones, introduced a new companion for The Doctor in the form of Martha Jones, played by Freema Agyeman. In this season, The Doctor and Martha traveled to the future, episode entitled Gridlock, and the past, both in The Shakespeare Code and Daleks in Manhattan, but it all culminated in the two-part season finale, episode one The Sound of Drums was televised in The United States last week on the Sci-Fi Channel, which has carried all three seasons of the re-launched television series.
