Halloween Season Activities For You and Your Children

Halloween is such a fun and magical time of year. It's fun for children to dress up in costumes and do all sorts of special things with their parents. Here are a few ideas that you could do with your children for some extra special fun.

1. Read

Halloween is my favorite holiday and I have my own personal children's Halloween book collection. What I like to do is to read a Halloween book every night, starting on October 1st and we have enough to do that. Now I do realize that not everyone is going to want to buy 31 Halloween books so if you have to read the same one over a few times, I'm sure your child won't mind. Another idea is to check out Halloween books from your local library. You could check out several at a time and check out some new Halloween books when you return the ones you already read.

2. Make Your Own Trick or Treat Bag

If you are taking your child trick or treat on Halloween, why not help them make their own trick or treat bag? All you'll need is 1 white gift bag that is big enough to fit all of their loot on Halloween. You can get these at the dollar store for a dollar. Next, let your child decorate the bag however they want. A few ideas are to cut out shapes from black construction paper to make Halloween faces. Or perhaps they'd like to glue uncooked macaroni, glitter and sequins to their bag. The important thing is that you do it together and help your child cut and glue when needed.

3. Footprint Bats

For footprint bats, you need several pieces of construction paper in whatever color you want your Halloween bats to be (I'd use Halloween colors like Black, purple and green). Trace your child's foot on three pieces of paper the same color. Cut them out. One one footprint, you'll want to cut off the toys in a curved shape. Next glue the other two footprints on each side of the footprint with no toes. Make sure the toy sides are sticking out because those act as the bat's wing tips. Let it dry and then glue two googly eyes on the bats head. If you don't have googly eyes, you can glue two white pieces of papers, cut into small circles. To hang them up, either use clothespins or glue magnets on the back and display them on your refrigerator.
