Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, California,is a historic hotel that has hosted some legendary movies stars and has been part of Hollywood movie history. Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is across the street from Grauman's Chinese Theater, famous for the "Walk of Fame" where Hollywood stars get recognition with "Stars" on the sidewalk. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is reported to be haunted by the ghosts of legendary movie stars Marilyn Monroe and Montgomery Clift.

Ghost Stories

Marilyn Monroe reportedly haunts the hotel's exclusive poolside nightclub, Tropicana. Unless you are a hotel guest or celebrity it may be difficult to get into the Tropicana. Marilyn's reflection has appeared in a full-length mirror that used to be in her favorite suite. Marilyn Montor's mirror has been relocated, and is now near the lobby's mezzanine level gift shop.

Montgomery Clift is said to haunt his favorite room, 928. Guests have reported hearing Clift's trombone playing in the ninth floor hallway.

It is said that the hotel's top floor Gable-Lombard Suite has a strong psychic and sexual energy. The Gable-Lombard Suite is very expensive, so you may need to be a movie star to stay there.

History of the Roosevelt Hotel

The twelve story Roosevelt Hotel was opened in 1927 in Los Angeles, California. Hollywood Roosevelt been the playground of Hollywood movie stars since its opening. The Roosevelt was the birthplace of the Academy Awards.

The hotel is located a block west of Grauman's Chinese Theatre and is one of the most historic sites on Hollywood Boulevard.

Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel's "Blossom Room" hosted the first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929. The cememony in the Blossom Room was attened by 270 people. The tickets were $5 each. The ceremony included a long banques with speeches. The actual presentation of the award statuew, however, was said to take only five minutes. Hollywood stars Douglas Fairbanks and Al Jolson presented 13 of the coveted statues.
