There are many schools of thought when it comes to health and diet. This is natural in that we are not all the same and do not share the same beliefs and habits. When it comes to the Atkins diet, you will find that many experts basically approve of the diet. These are professionals who ultimately believe that obesity is more dangerous than any diet plan that can resolve that issue. Other experts will claim that it is unhealthy, citing that high fat intake is dangerous to your heart and circulatory system. What most people agree on, however, is that the diet works. The discussion about the potential harm to your heart is certainly worth considering. Doctors have told us for years that the key to a healthy heart is to reduce our fat and cholesterol intake. However, many of the experts who criticize the Atkins diet have not taken into account the diet, as a whole. Many look only at the "staples" of the diet without looking into the entire program. Part of the research into the Atkins plan, involves the study of how foods are broken down in the body, and what the residual effects may be. Additionally, the program defines "good fats" and "bad fats", and recommends the use of good fats, such as extra virgin olive oil. Additionally, it has been proven that a certain amount of fat is necessary for total health.
One of the biggest concerns of a weight loss plan is the ability to keep the weight off after the completion of the diet. Many people say that the Atkins way simply can't be adhered to long term. Other people find that they can easily live without carbs, can stick to the maintenance plan, and keep the weight off. As with any diet, this comes down to personal choice and will power.
Some experts have criticized the Atkins diet, claiming that the diet ignores the need for exercise. This is actually a misstatement. Although, the main emphasis of the diet pertains to food and eating plans, the diet does recommend exercise as part of an overall healthy lifestyle.
