Not Because of the Plot, but Seemingly a Lack of Trust in It

Ok, for starters, I am not a prude. There I got that out of the way, because it will seem like I am going to "pick on" the Farrelly brothers style of comedy when in actuality I am going to implore them to start trusting their very original comedy instincts a bit more.

If you ever seen a Farrelly bothers movie such as, "Dumb and Dumber", "Shallow Hal", "Me, Myself and Irene" and of my favorite, "There's Something About Mary" you know that there are many of times that their brand of comedy can have you squirming a bit in your seat, and to put it mildly the current movie rating system just can't prepare you properly with words for what the brothers have in store for you both visually and auditory and their newest release, "The Heartbreak Kid", starring one Ben Stiller is no exception.

Now, for the record, I for the most part really enjoy their movies, even though most of the time viewing them is "bracing for the impact" of what I am about to see or hear, but I have started to be able to put a finger on what the common thread that really bothers me about their movies, and I think I finally have it with "Heartbreak Kid", and that is the fact that I just wish that they would start pulling back a bit on "shock" and "pushing the envelope" and trusting that their story lines are really that good and people will like the movies for them, I know that I would and that is where I was left a bit disappointed from "The Kid" as I really liked the story and Ben Stiller was once again perfectly cast.

I mean, can you name anyone in Hollywood that seems to be almost perfectly cast in everything he or she does other than Stiller? I think you would be hard pressed to find someone. Stiller has a just the look to pull off a "Woody Allen" style role, or enough menace to be a comedy's villain as in Dodgeball or Heavyweights, so his versatility and presence I feel got wasted a bit in a film that just a few too many "pushes of said envelope" for me.
