Confederate and Union Officers Join Civil War Celebration

The Sawyer Homestead in Monroe, Michigan will be the site of a meeting between Union General Ulysses S. Grant and Confederate General Robert E. Lee this weekend as the city continues its Custer Week Civil War Celebration.

Confederate General Robert E. Lee, portrayed by reenactor Al Stone, is set to arrive in town on Friday and will join both Union and Confederate officers at a "Gathering of the Eagles" on Saturday, October 6 at the Sawyer Homestead. Also present will be Mrs. Elizabeth (Libbie) Custer

The officers and Mrs. Custer will also be present on Saturday evening as the VFW #1138 hosts a Gathering of the Eagles Dinner Program. For more information about the dinner program, contact Betty Westover at 734-242-3213. Reservations are $10 for adults and $5 for children under age ten.
