Many homemade Halloween costume ideas for kids can seem overwhelming and intricate and even costly. I thought it would be fun to share some great simple and inexpensive homemade costume ideas for toddlers or young children that I've come up or seen others come up with in the past.

All of these costume ideas are based around basic solid color sweat suits for toddlers or young children. The sweat suits can be found very inexpensively at major mass market stores such as Dollar General, Walmart and Target. The last time I checked, these sweat suits could be had for under $8, pants and shirt. So there we have the inexpensive base for our homemade Halloween costume, now to turn those basic sweat suits into the star of the Halloween night show.

Kitten- A fun, sweet kitten costume is perhaps one of the classic, always timeless costume ideas for little ones. The sweat suit used as the base used for this costume can be white, black, or gray. Ears can be made using a basic headband and triangles of gray, black or white felt. It's neat to mix and match the ear colors with the body color-a gray kitty can have pink ears or black ears, a black kitty can have gray ears or pink ears. Each ear can even be a different color! Secure the chosen colorful triangles of felt to the headband using glue and let dry completely. Using a black eyeliner pencil, draw whiskers across the cheeks of your little Halloween kitten. Add pink lipstick on the nose and ta-da, a cute Halloween kitten all geared up for spookity fun.
