Many of us stop for coffee on our way to work or during our break. There are also many of us who also complain about the fact that we cannot afford to do some of the things that we enjoy doing. What many of us do not realize is that our coffee breaks, which often seem insignificant financially at the time and necessary to have, could be putting a hole in our pockets. Here, we will take a much closer at how much coffee is really costing you.

How Much is Your Coffee Costing You?

Let's pretend that you spend $3.00 a day on a cup of coffee. Although this may sound a bit expensive, it is what you can expect to pay at places such as Starbucks. You may personally pay more or less for your coffee, depending on where you get it from and what you order. Since most Americans work five days a week, we'll pretend that you pay $3 for one cup of coffee five days a week. This means that you spend $15 a week and $60 a month on coffee. Sounds innocent enough, right? Well, that's $720 a year. Of course, keep in mind that your own expenses may be a bit different. For example, let's pretend that you indulge in coffee on the weekends also. That increases the amount of money that you spend on coffee to $21 a week, $84 a month and $1,008 a year. If you buy two cups of coffee a day, you could be looking at $1,440 a year if you drink it five days a week or $2,016 a year if you drink it seven days a week. While coffee may seem necessary for you to have at the time, is it really worth the amount of money that you are spending on it?

How Can You Save Money on Coffee?

Now that you know how much your coffee is really costing you, the main thing that you are probably wondering is how you can save money on coffee. Obviously, one of the best ways to save money on coffee would be to brew your own coffee at home. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work out for those of us who are on the go. Luckily, there are a number of ways to save on coffee when you order it from the coffee shop.
