When a Content Producer Writes an Article Because of You

Aside from the profit garnered from writing and publishing, what keeps people coming back to Associated Content?

For many, it's the conversations that ensue from the articles. When an article is written about a controversial subject, you can bet there will be pages and pages of comments. Now, these comments (though initially) are not just directed at the author, but what begins to occur is cross conversation among the readers-a debate forum, if you will.

A few articles have been written by content producers in regard to how readers should behave when leaving their comments. Comment etiquette, some call it. And that's all fine and good, I agree. One should be mature and respectful. Now, it's natural that from time to time when we get heated (it happens) a person gets harsh. They should apologize. We should all take a deep breath and think about the reaction we're going to conger up when we set to typing.

However, there is another issue. So many people don't know what to do with a person with conviction, with passion for their principals-a person who makes no apology for their opinions. If this person is bold, and states clearly what they know to be right or wrong (you've guessed it, I'm referring to yours truly) then they are accused of being too strong, to be bullyish, condescending, and so forth. When someone reads the work of someone who takes a strong stance on a subject, as well as reading comments from such a person, maybe then a moment should be taken to examine what one has written before they begin to make comments about someone's character.

I will say in being myself and being honest about whom I am and about what I believe, I expected all of this. A person such as myself with unconventional views and moral philosophies knows that she will be attacked by the majority. The most amusing point, I find, is that I'm usually entirely misunderstood. Those who have the most to say mislabel me. But, I rest assured. Throughout history it's been this way-when someone goes against the grain, they are going to get a lot of flack. I'm just glad that I live in a day when burning at the stake is a thing of the past.

Here's something amazing that is happening at AC. Associated Content has a growing number of poets, who encourage one another often with comments. Lately, CPs have written poetic tributes to one another. Some of us have written bantering series of poems, responding to one another's posts. Others have published personal interviews on CPs. How encouraging is that? Often, poetry earns lesser page views (and performance payments) than straightforward articles, so this feedback helps to spur creative writers on. (I recently posted a piece on this exact topic.) I think it's wonderful to see writers encouraging and mentoring one another.

I hope to inspire an article someday.

This was a very good article Jennifer. I'll bet if we (you and I) got to know and understand each other, we would find we agree more than we disagree. And thanks for the link to my article. Again, good job.

Interesting. I wonder if I've inspired any articles. I don't think I surf the new submissions enough to say for sure. I usually only read what catches my eye. Anyway, I think it's cool that you've inspired others' writing efforts.

Awww, dude! The absence of line breaks in comments really messed up my wee diddy. I'll try it again: "Thank God" I wouldn't burn you at the stake,/though you sometimes do need a spank./For arguing like talking heads,/though you don't pray for your daily bread,/is such a distasteful trait.

Jennifer, dreahwhrites comment is on about something, the pattern should tell you something. As someone who also gets alot of articles written in response, I get the same "pattern." Remember, you are even more defined by those who dislike you than by those who do..keep up the great writing!

I'm completely unashamed to admit that Jennifer played a part in inspiring my abortion rights article - it's the nature of discourse. If you have something worth saying in response to someone and you feel they will attempt to actually debate/defend it, you post it. I can't complain about free advertising though.

first, you have no idea of knowing for sure if you inspired all of the articles... second, if that is the case, then the pattern should tell you something.
