From Friday to Sunday, Mobile, Alabama, will play host to a variety of musical acts at its annual Bayfest weekend. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Bayfest, and Mobile has pulled out all the stops to make this year's celebration a memorable one.

For those who don't already know, Bayfest is a three-day music festival held in downtown Mobile. Fans can catch any number of live acts performing on one of nine different stages. It's something akin to Jazz Fest, held in May in New Orleans, or Bumbershoot, which takes place in Seattle toward the end of August each year.

Bayfest has gained in popularity since its inaugural debut in Mobile back in 1995. In fact, according to the Bayfest website, this event has even surpassed Mobile's Mardi Gras celebration in recent years, and has been deemed a top event by the Southeast Tourism Society. In other words, Bayfest has become a big deal.

And a big deal it will remain this year. But how could it not? Alice in Chains will perform there this year, as will Blues Traveler. Boys II Men are scheduled to play, as well as Ludacris. Daughtry will grace a stage, and so will LeAnn Rimes. Even the Mississippi Mass Choir will be there.

The most difficult part about Bayfest is not deciding whether or not you should go, but how you'll manage to see everything in a mere seventy-two hours! Just looking over the list of scheduled performers-too many to fit on a single web page that's been elongated to its limits-I'm wondering how anyone could accomplish such a feat.

Another cool thing about Bayfest is that it is a family friendly event. There are areas reserved for children's activities and booths, so parents won't need to miss out on seeing some of their favorite bands.

The cost of tickets isn't bad, so yes, you can attend Bayfest and still have money for Christmas this year. Children 12 and under receive free admission as long as they are accompanied by a ticket holding adult. Passes range from $25-35 for adults.

FYI- From the writer: it's the 13th anniversary, not the 30th.
