To introduce consumers to the latest method of enjoying movies at home, the Walt Disney Company created a "Magical Blu-Ray Tour, which is making its way across the country.

Blu-ray Discs Make Good Use of High Definition Televisions

For those who just finished the switch from VHS tapes to DVD, Blu-ray discs represent the latest generation of pre-recorded movies. While standard DVD's were a quantum leap over videotape in terms of picture and sound quality, Blu-ray discs present films in a format 6 times better than standard digital video discs and make good use of high definition televisions.

What Does Blu-ray Mean?

The name "Blu-ray" refers to the blue-violet laser that's used to read and write data on the disc. For trademark purposes, the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), an organization composed of several electronics manufacturers, chose that particular spelling of "blue."

The Walt Disney Tour Offers a "Hands-On" Look at Blu-ray

The "Magical Blu-ray Tour" consists of several kiosks or stations that offer consumers a close-up look at this new technology. In addition to a special Playstation 3 giveaway, one kiosk even features an interactive game of "Liar's Dice" from "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

"Meet the Robinsons" Will be Released on Blu-ray Disc

"Meet the Robinsons" tells the story of Lewis, a lonely young man who spends the better part of his life at an orphanage. Because he invents machines that either explode or cause untold property damage, he's been passed over for adoption several times by prospective parents. Things change, though, after a time traveler takes Lewis into the future and he meets a very unusual family that accepts him as one of their own.
