Preference by L'Oreal: Hair Color That is Worth it

Sometimes the Best is Worth Paying for

Nobody really wants to pay a lot of money for hair color. As soon as that first gray hair appears, the realization that you are going to be dying your hair every six weeks, until you are six feet under, can be daunting. But if you are concerned enough about those telltale gray hairs to
dye your hair, you'll want to get Preference by L'Oreal.

A quick scan of the dye section at your local grocery or drugstore will tell you that it is probably among the more expensive options. However, L'Oreal has made great strides in its ability to keep hair looking the originally dyed color. Not only do their hair dyes last longer - often as long as 8 weeks - they do so under some rather extreme circumstances. This means that you can dye your hair and probably won't have to worry about the effects of swimming pools, sunshine, and other factors that can wash out or grossly discolor cheaper dyes.

But as with most things, the final proof is in the fine print. Pick up a leading competitive brand of hair dye, and you will often read admonitions that it is not intended for gray or nearly-gray coverage. In other words, the hair dye is for those who are doing so strictly on a whim, not out of necessity. (Go figure!) L'Oreal's Preference line, however, is specially formulated to cover predominantly gray hair, and as a result, the color is richer from the beginning - and stays that way.

There are some caveats when using the product, however. First, you will definitely pay more. (Yes, yes, their commercials do tell you, "You're worth it." What a great justification for the higher price!) But considering the product's ability to withstand the onslaught of sun and fun activities without turning your head green, the comparison needs to be made more between L'Oreal and a salon dye job, as opposed to comparing it solely with other over-the-counter hair dyes (none of which really do the same job).

hi i dont think there is any product or color that will bring out your natural hair color out unless you just leave you old color to grow inorder for your natural shade to come out

I had pretty dark brown hair & was so bummed when those darbn silver hairs started coming in and I needed to start coloring over my natural hair color. The first try was with a clairol product that "grabbed" way too fast in certain areas (oddly enough this was not the driest parts) I folllowed up with my stylist and $85 later I left with a dark brown color with too red of undertones. After about 2 weeks of HATING my hair color I went to the grocery sotre and bought Loreal Preference Soft Black. It went on as a VERy dark brown. Perfecto! Glossy even coverage and almost my natural shade (except I no longer have the vairety of blonde brown and black hairs that combined to make my unique natural shade) but hey it looks good and natural. PLUS after 3 colorings in a 4 week period it did minimal damage to my hair. I used the conditioner in cluded and then bought pantenes Ice Shine conditioner and all is well with my hair again. .

I used this hair dye, and everything about it worked great except for the scent. It was so strong I needed to lay down, because it was making me dizzy. My entire house smelled for days.

Hi, I m 58 years old and currently use Prefference by L'Oreal -light brown highlight kit. I am thinking of letting my natural color grow out that would be a white/grey. I am wondering if you might be working on a product to bring out the natural beauty of gray and white hair.

CAROL, L'OREAL Preference is great for gray! It is great even for those that do not have gray hair as it really makes the color rich! I used to pay a lot of money at a salon, no more!!!
