I recently needed to take a business trip to the Tampa Bay, Floria region for my job. My company booked me several nights at the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Tampa Bay, Florida. Overall I was quite pleased by the hotel during my stay. I'm not going to say that they are a five star hotel that has great extras, but then again when you are traveling for business many times you just want a clean room, space to work, and a place to relax when you are finished with your workday.

The LaQuinta Inn & Suites in Tampa Bay, Florida does meet these preferences of mine. It is located on Spruce Street in Tampa and is just across the road from the International Plaza Shopping Center. This location is not bad and the shopping center is within walking distance if you don't mind a ten to fifteen minute walk. One thing I did find odd was that you could press a button to get a walk sign when crossing the highway when walking towards the shopping center, but not when crossing back towards the hotel. This can be frustrating as there are five lanes on each side of the highway for a total of ten to cross.

The hotel has a shuttle from the airport and it arrives quickly in a location that was easy to find at the hotel. I called the front desk of the hotel when I arrived in the Tampa airport and was told where to meet the shuttle and that it was being sent over. Within about 20-25 minutes the shuttle arrived. After picking me up it was about a 5 to 10 minute ride to the hotel. Check-in at the hotel was quick and efficient.

The hotel has 122 rooms, even though when you look at it you would never believe it as it doesn't look that large. The rooms are relatively large for the price range of the rooms. Each room has two double beds in the room. There also is a table that is large enough for a lap top computer and to set up several piles of paper on it. Speaking of lap tops, one amenity business travelers will be pleased with is the wireless internet access that is available in the rooms at LaQuinta. The network speed is very good and can be located easily by your wireless modem.

Takeaways
  • The room is rather large for a moderately priced hotel.
  • International Plaza shopping center is very upscale as are most of the restaurants in it.
  • There is an IHOP next door if you want a cheaper meal option.
Did You Know?
My first night in the room the alarm clock made odd noises after setting the alarm about once an hour during the night. I let the front desk know the next morning and when I returned from work that evening it had been replaced with a new one.
