Celebrate "National Candy Corn Day" with Brach's Caramel Apple Candy Corn

Halloween means costumes, carved pumpkins, hay rides and candy corn! Brach's is one of the leaders in candy corn production and they have added another flavor to their line up. No longer do you have to settle for the regular yellow, white and orange candy corn, now you can indulge in their Caramel Apple flavored candy corn. When I saw the bag at the grocery store I knew I wasn't leaving without getting one. Could they really have managed to capture the taste of a caramel covered apple?

Oddly enough, National Candy Corn Day is celebrated on October 30^th, not the 31^st. I guess this candy is so special that it just can't share the spotlight with Halloween.

The 9.5 ounce bag has a suggested retail price of $1.49 but most stores are selling them for less to entice customers to get in on the Halloween rush before it's too late. When I saw that these and the regular candy corn assortment were on sale for .99 cents, it made it a done deal. How can you tell the difference between the regular and the caramel version? These are white, orange and brown and when you open the bag the smell that hits you is identical as to what you would smell after you take that first big bite into a sweet caramel covered apple.

I had planned to use these as part of a craft project to make Halloween picture frames. I had picked up several other types of candy corn and started arranging them on plastic transparent frames but wasn't satisfied with the candy I'd managed to collect. These added just the right amount of extra autumn color to it and gave it a nice scent. I'm sure that over time the smell will dissipate but for the time being, I have some very cool looking picture frames that smell oh-so-seasonal.
