In an effort to deter the numerous 40 Days For Life participants, Planned Parenthood has posted numerous articles on their site: www.plannedparenthood.org. These articles tell a chilling tale of harassment, threats, graphic signs and hateful speech. Labeling all participants in the 40 Days For Life as extremists, they have begun a campaign called "pledge a picketer." $1 per picketer per day they're out there for the 40 Days, which began on September 26th and runs through the end of the day on November 4, 2007. How they plan on using that money to fight back is very unclear. The only thought that comes to mind is holding an anti-prayer vigil rally or just advertise more for abortions.

Unfortunately for them, Planned Parenthood has already made some poor choices of their own in how they treat the extremely peaceful team of pro life prayer advocates. Reports from all over the country have streamed into David Bereit, founder of the 40 Days For Life, of harassment, threats and so forth from Pro Choice advocates and Planned Parenthood themselves. And while they state on their site that "an overwhelming majority of Americans (71 percent) agreed that women and health care providers should not be forced to endure intimidation and harassment from anti-choice protesters," they fail to mention that the 40 Days For Life is as peaceful as they come. They fail to mention that most polls will show that close to 70% of American citizens are in favor of anything from tighter restrictions to a complete ban on abortion.

I know this is an old one but hope to hear from you all. On a personal note, kw by the way you express yourself I can tell that you are most likely a very nice, kind and sincere person who truely believes in what you do. Please note that my comments about you are not meant to attack you personally, I am just trying to make a point. I had a run in with your people and they made a friend cry and doubt herself through what I call harassment /intimidation techniques. I told her to get as much information as possible before making a decision and that I will support her either way. This is a very tramatic experience for a woman and best solved by being there for her.

Pro Lifers YOU SUCK! Keep your Christen views and morality to yourselves, because when you get in my "face" you are wrong. Do your thing in your churches, homes, meetings, etc., but when you stand out in the streets waving your sick signs you have now entered the public domain and are interfering in MY life. I did not ask for your opinions or views and do not wish to be harassed with your petty signs and verbage. So your argument is that abortion is "murder" and that if you do nothing you are guilty too.....Well let me pause and give thanks....hallelujah Jesus has landed! and he/'she is on the internet, and his/her handle is kw! Wow it must really be tough for you and your anti abortion friends given that the entire worlds sins rest on your shoulders. Must be hard to sleep at night knowing that each abortion is another conviction for you and your freinds, the guilt must be terrrible to live with....baby killer! Are you Jesus or perhaps just one of the angels sent to help him

And furthermore, Jennifer, I am really offended at your comment instructing me to "go do some work that actually does some good ... focus on the children who are already here".... etc. It's quite laughable that you would make such assumptions about someone you don't know. BUT -- since you are pointing fingers, maybe you should know that I volunteer UNPAID on average of 10 hours a week to helping others. Every Monday I spend the entire morning serving at a Crisis Pregnancy Center, every Saturday I leave my own family to spend the day working at a food pantry handing out food to needy families (yep, including the children who are already here!). I devote countless hours toward raising money and awareness for these organizations. And all this is in addition to my pro-life work. So, Jennifer, I'd like to know, when was the last time that YOU did something that "did some good" .... or do you spend all your time online making accusations against people you don't know? Respectfully

Jennifer, I absolutely NEVER said or insinuated that any woman seeking an abortion "does not have a brain in her head". Please do not attempt to skew my opinion by putting words in my mouth. I was merly attempting to answer your original question as to why pro-lifers can't "mind their own business". I was explaining to you the way WE (as pro-lifers) see the issue of abortion, and therefore why we can't do NOTHING. I understand that you don't agree with this view, you obviously don't believe that abortion is the killing of a baby. That's fine, I'm not trying to "convert" you. I was simply trying to explain OUR side to you, so that you can understand why this matters to us so much. And maybe you would see that we're not participating in 40Days as a way to bug people and meddle in their personal lives.

i also think it is funny how all of the extremists commenting on this article won't let their identity be known.

ALLEGED 'EXASPERATED': Read again. I did address kw. Also, you're saying that no one is 'stupid' enough to argue about the 'alive and of homo sapian' status of the unborn. again, read what i wrote. some do argue that very point. and they are suggesting that the women don't have a brain in their head and can think for themselves. how are they not?

Posted on 10/18/2007 at 10:10:00 PM

Whoops. Meant to say: "alive and of the species homo sapiens." As I was saying, the responsibility of all civilized people to stand up against this atrocity more than gives them the right to "inferfere" (which is a laughable accusation to levy against the peaceful 40 Days for Life participants anyway) with Planned Parenthood's bloody "business."

Jennifer, it would be nice if you would actually address kw's arguments. Your response began with the ridiculous assertion that their argument depended on the false premise that women don't "have brains in their heads." They said absolutely nothing about the intelligence or perception of women. Look, it's quite simple. If abortion is murder, then saying "Don't like abortion? Don't have one" is like saying, "Don't like slavery? Then don't buy slaves." The "live and let live" argument was used to support slavery in nineteenth-century America, too. So, your rhetoric's logic applies ONLY if abortion is not the destruction of an innocent human life. No one is stupid enough to try to argue that an unborn child is not: alive of the species homo sapiens So please tell me how the destruction of that human life is not murder. If it is, the responsibility of all civilized people to stand up against this atrocity MORE than gives them the right to interfere with Planned Parenthood's

A. Reader and KW- you pretend that the woman walking into that clinic doesn't have a brain in her head. Medical procedures such as abortion are made to competant women in their right minds. The lot of you are also dodging the fact that many people do not believe that a pregnancy in the early phase is a viable human life. A far cry from the ridiculous example below of lining up already born children and shooting them. If these "pro-lifers" want to do their thing, then get a building in which to do it and let pregnant women come to you. See how you feel when a pro-choice advocacy group sits in front of your door. Actually, you'd never have the chance to know the feeling, because they wouldn't be bothering you. And let me ask, why aren't you people doing some work that does some actual good? Focus your efforts on doing something for the children who are already here. Or would that be too quiet for you? I know you love your soapbox. You're no better than the johavah's witness knockin

Jennifer Thompson - question for you...why can't people mind their own business? I want a real answer for that. If you don't feel that speaking out against abortion is right, then don't speak out against those who are pro-life. And as to your rhetorical question, "But why, I ask you, do you think you have the right to make a decision for another person? What makes you think you're better suited to do so?" the answer is simple. When an individual makes the decision to kill their unborn child at an abortion clinic, pro-lifers have the right to offer counseling to that individual before they enter the clinic. So, Jennifer Thompson - why can't you mind your own business? The social interaction is between the street counselor and the pregnant woman being offered counseling and literature. What makes you think you have made any kind of logical point with your rhetorical questioning?

There is currently a group of people picketing in front of our local Planned Parenthood. I think that it is fine to protest your beliefs (both pro-choice and pro-life) but frankly, I can understand the defensiveness of those who work or seek services in these clinics. Being afraid of someone bombing my place of work would rile me up. Of course, having my medical privacy invaded by a bunch of "street counselors" would make me not too friendly either. Both sides of the fence need to always practice non-violent ways to speak their piece, but I don't think harassing patients will make them want to see your side. PP offers many other GYN services for women, and counseling is offered for ALL aspects of family planning.

oh boy. i hope that this wasn't a news peice since it is so clearly op-ed. and I agree that its wrong to say that all planned parenthood could use the money for is anti-prayer vigils or advertisements for abortion. they offer lots of services that are a saving grace for low-income women. its also not fair to lump extremist pro-choicers actions in with planned parenthood. you claim planned parenthood has tarred all of 40 days whatever as extremists yet you are doing the same thing in reverse.

Pretend for a moment, Jennifer, that somehow you find yourself in a position where you witness a handfull of doctors legally meeting once a year in Washington DC. There they gather up about 1.3 million American children on the steps of the Capital. Suddenly you see them pull out guns and one by one begin to murder all the kids! Do you say something and try to stop them? Or do you watch silently and allow it to happen because it's legal and it's "none of your business"? This is the way that pro-life advocates view abortion. It is the legal killing of 1.3 million American children every year. And if we SAY nothing, if we DO nothing to try and stop it, then we are guilty too. Respectfully.... kw in ATL

oops.... for some reason it cut off the rest of my comment. I was saying we don't view abortion as only something you "choose" to do to your own body, we see it as something you choose to do to ANOTHER person's body. A tiny little baby, who can not speak up or defend himself.
