Those Geico cavemen commercials were hilarious. Extremely civilized cavemen facing discrimination and bias in a human world-brilliant. I loved them and each and every one of them made me laugh. In one scenario, the cavemen go to a fancy restaurant and one orders duck with mango salsa while the other explains he lost his appetite in disgust. In another he goes to a therapist in his attempt to deal with the Geico "So easy a caveman can do it" campaign. In yet another he appears on a split screen talk show to defend his viewpoints and stick up for cavemen rights while he is mocked yet again with no recourse except to sigh disapprovingly. Could ABC expand on these lovable and hilarious characters, making them into an entertaining full-length sitcom?

Simply stated: No, no they could not. Not that anybody truly expected anything different. While curiosity was certainly piqued by the concept of Cavemen, few actually believed the show would be great. In the first episode of Cavemen they inserted the jokes and storylines you might expect. The show began with one caveman ridiculing The Flintstones and why he didn't find it funny. In the words of one of the cavemen talking about a cocktail party, the show was unfortunately, mostly "lamesville".

That's not to say the entire show was awful. The highlight of the Cavemen premiere was a long debate amongst characters when one of the cavemen was dating a member of the Homo sapiens species; a normal human being. There was shock and awe when he announced the reason they haven't met his girlfriend was that she was a "sape". He was also concerned that his girlfriend's friends wouldn't accept him, a caveman, either. However, he later finds out that his girlfriend may actually have a cavemen fetish, and has been around the block of the cavemen meat market, so to speak.

It was veal. Not duck. Veal. Why would anyone lose their appetite because of duck? Dumbass.

I am actually surprised that anyone on this planet would need a columnist to tell them that this show is utterly ridiculous and should be scrapped as soon as humanly (no pun intended) possible. If I were the CEO of anywhere, at anytime, and one of my employees suggested using a clever ruse from a car insurance commercial to create a sitcom pilot... I would fire them on the spot. There is not a court in the world that would be able to convict me of wrongful termination and every group of my peers would hail me for doing away with such an ignorant employee. I would thereafter be named the oracle of who not to hire in a professional atmosphere... ...And we would never have to watch such crap again. -nmx8.

I hereby solemnly swear to edit to the best of my ability -- no matter how quickly the article will be released! My most humble apologies, perhaps my writing talents have peeked, I am in appall. :)

Wrote this one in a hurry -- and didn't really edit --to get it out right after, so, sorry about the "piqued".. and the appall was meant to be "awe".. glad there are so many critics..

Peeked?

I'm going to bet that Nick the caveman could tell the difference between "peeked" and "piqued". Also, "appall" is a verb, not a noun. And I thought Cavemen was pretty funny. Not a gem, by any means, but I'll take 30 minutes of Neanderthal vs. Homo sapiens jokes over another mindless reality show or knockoff of The Office.

Brutal. Just a brutal show. Now Carpoolers, which followed it... decent. But back to the insurance biz for the cavemen.

Wahtever, the world need s no brained comedy every now and then, it was pretty danged funny for a 1st episode under the srutiny it has been placed under. I for one hope it stays on for a while. " Yabba-dabba-doo--- " "Don't..... Ever...." CLassic... and "keep your penis in your genus?" wow

It's 'piqued' not 'peeked.'
