Many people do not look forward to the end of October. For a variety of reasons, they find the whole idea distasteful and sacriligious. In ancient rituals of the All Hallows Eve, villagers would light enormous bonfires and have all out parites, to ward off the evil they believed to haunt the evening before the religious celebration of All Saints' Day. Does every October 31 leave you searching for a way to avoid the Halloween spooks and frights? How about hosting an alternative party, celebrating the Light that Overcomes the Darkness?

Here is a party planner to guide your celebration of the joy of God's love. It will give children a focus and distraction from the lure of Halloween. It will give you and those who think like you, some positive options so you can be proactive in your party and not just reactive against Halloween. This festival will not be costly or difficult. to host or manage, either. Some of the activities come from Oriental Trading, but most can be made independently. I've pu the planner on a time frame so you can organize and sequence events.

Sample Agenda of Activities

Food Buffet:. Have a several people monitor.

Costume party: Have people dress as Bible Characters or famous historical people.

Miniature pumpkin or gourd decorating: Use fabric or wood paint, glitter, feathers and pompoms. Donate these to homeless shelters or nursing homes forTthanksgiving table decorations.

Service project: Collect items for charity or missions as an admittance fee. When I did this for our home-schooling group, our priest was going to Mexico and wanted to bring undergarments to share. Everyone was instructed to bring a package of white tee-shirts or underwear as the 'price' to get into the event.

Bible Bingo: Print out bible bingo cards with verses as clues instead of just numbers, to make it more challenging. Give pencils as prizes.

Bible Cake Walk: Put verses or pictures on chairs. This is played like musical chairs. The winner is the one sitting on the chair that is labeled with the chosen clue or person. Use prizes from OTC for this game. Or give out cupcakes as prizes.
