Yes, it is possible to go to a store and buy a Halloween costume for your baby or toddler. Sometimes, it's a lot more fun to make it yourself at home. If your baby has a blanket sleeper or stretch suit, you can make a Halloween costume at home. A simple and fun choice of costumes is some kind of animal. Pick out a sleeper in the color of the animal of your choice. A gold colored sleeper can be a lion or pony, white becomes a lamb or unicorn. You can even use red or blue for those popular pups, Clifford and Blue's Clues. Get a hat or cap in a matching color and stitch on some felt ears. A lion's or pony's mane can be made with a small piece of fringed fleece, and a unicorn's baby horn from the finger of an old glove wrapped in gold ribbon or cord.If an animal costume doesn't appeal to you, there are still other choices. A baby girl can wear a pink stretch suit and tutu to be a ballerina. Get some nylon tulle and fold into several layers. Using a large needle and narrow ribbon, sew in and out along one side of the layers. Gather it up and tie in a bow around baby's middle. A multi-colored stretch suit can be the beginning of a cute clown. Just pin a big colorful hairbow onto a hat or cap and paint the nose red with a child safe makeup.
Another good starter for tiny tot costumes is a large child or small adult t-shirt. You'll want one that comes below the knees, but is not so long that the child could trip on it. A white t-shirt can be an angel with the addition of a gold ribbon at the waist, and a stretchy gold headband for a halo. You can make tiny and comfortable wings by stuffing a pair of adult white gloves and attaching them at the shoulder. Stitch or glue the fingers together to keep them closed. Would you like a little witch or wizard costume? Just start with a black t-shirt and paint some stars, moons and planets on it. One of those cone shaped party hats can be covered with black paper to make the hat.
