I have never been impressed with Hollywood celebrities and do not understand the fascination that most of America has with them. I enjoy watching movies and TV shows but I do not idolize the people who star in them. They are just people like the rest of us ... they just happen to get paid a lot more money than most of us for what they do for a living.

What is so fascinating about celebrities? For the most part, all I see is a lot of self-indulgent rich spoiled people who think they don't have to play by the rules, and who spend way too much money on the latest "must-have" gadget when they could shop at Wal-Mart like the rest of us and spend some of that money helping other people.

In all fairness I have to say that there are some stars who truly do give a big portion of their time and money to help those less fortunate, but surely even they could do more. And maybe that would inspire some of their fellow celebs to jump on the humanitarian bandwagon, and do it in a big way.

It makes me angry to hear how much they spend on designer clothes, handbags, vacations, or whatever ... they could help so many people with that money. I'm not begrudging them that they shouldn't have nice things, but to spend $1,000 (or more) on a pair of shoes is ridiculous and excessive. They could buy a pair for $50 for themselves and then use the other $950 to buy 19 more pairs and give them to someone who has no shoes. It's time for a big reality check.

But I'm getting a little off course from my original topic and will get off my soap box now and back to the original intent of this article.

What makes people stand in line for days and spend hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars to go to a concert or sporting event? What makes people push and shove and trample other human beings just to get a tiny bit closer to a celebrity so they can get an autograph?

I agree with you. We live in a society that's far too obsessed with celebrities. It's not healthy or productive. Great article!

Nice article, but when I become a celebrity, I will defintetly stay true and be myself! :)

You know, we all put our pants on the same way. :-)

What a great article. I do not want to hear how much celebrities can dish out just for a freakin' pair of socks! We all put our clothes on the same way. It's just that us regular folk's wardrobe does not cost as much as a lear jet!Geez. It is ridiculous. Good job again Nikki

From your mouth to God's Ears! Great write! It is truly hard to have pity for these self-absorbed, immature fools with plenty of dollars, but no sense.

Then that other rich guy gives the Gate's even more money. Then I look at all the people living in poverty and wonder if the guys could spare some of that cash to help the needy. I guess the way they gain their wealth is by their unwillingness to share it.

I can not say that I was ever star struck but I have had favorite stars. I like reading their biographies to see how they got from ordinary to extra ordinary. Stardom does not happen overnight, it takes work, brains, drive and talent to get there. I also do not understand the amount of money even non-stars will pay for designer clothes. You paid what for a Gucci pocketbook??? Then there are the Bill Gates of the world. He started a charitable foundation, which pays himself and his wife (board of directors).

Great article. Everyone thinks that Oprah is so wonderful for all that she does but she admits that she loves to "spoil" herself. It is true that these celebs have earned this money and it is THEIR choice what do with it, but I hold them just as accountable as I do regular folk: people who spend ridiculous amounts of money on "things" are idiots. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than knowing that in our household, we spend our money wisely and still manage to get the things that we want. Well said, thanks!

Great article, though!

I find celebs increasingly boring and self-destructive.

No, I'm not star struck. :>)

People who are that obsessed with celebrities need to get a life of their own! :)

When I was younger I was fascinated with the Hollywood scene. Now I don't care as much. Is it because I am more mature or because I just don't have the time to care?

I could care less what the so called celebrities are doing. There is too much going on in my own life to care a fig about them. The media makes too much of them to begin with.

Yea, I don't understand it either!
