More Musical Heights: Short Male Stars of Pop and Rock Music

Meet the biggest musical men in history. They are rousing rockers, glorious guitar gods and we look up to them onstage and in videos, yet these rockers are pretty short.

Following are music's biggest names, but some of the shortest in height.

Kurt Cobain - 5'7

The late Kurt Cobain's plaintive, wailing voice was one of the largest in music, but at 5'7 he was one of the shortest rockers around.

Tortured soul Kurt Cobain helped create the sub genre of rock called Grunge or Garage Rock. Writing most of his own songs and fronting his band Nirvana as lead singer, Cobain carved out a brief, but incredibly influential and near mythic name as an architect of 1990's Grunge.

Sonny Bono - 5'5 ½

The late Sonny Bono was short half of mega duo Sonny and Cher, which launched the careers of himself and taller wife Cher.

Sonny wrote classics like "The Beat Goes On" and "I've Got You Babe" and recorded them with Cher, which led to The Sonny And Cher Show. After they broke up, Cher became a superstar and Sonny went into politics. In 1998, a skiing accident claimed the life of Bono while he was a U.S. Congressman, his wife would assume his seat afterwards in a special election.

Paul Williams - 5'2

A visible staple in the 1970's in movies, music and television, singer and composer Paul Williams only stands 5'2.

Writing the pop classics "We've Only Just Begun," "Rainy Days and Mondays", "Just An Old Fashioned Love Song" and "Rainbow Connection," just to name a few, he made an indelible mark in popular music. Williams had a beefy career as an actor, appearing in such favorites as The Muppet Movie,Smokey And The Bandit and Battle for The Planet Of The Apes.

Prince - 5'2

At 5'2, the Artist Formerly Known as many things is not only one of the shortest rockers around, but one of the most dynamic musicians in the history of rock music.
