The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo was rated one of the top 10 zoos for kids by Child Magazine, but since it's hidden up in the northern part of Indiana, most people outside of the Fort Wayne area don't even know it exists. However, it's a place every family should add to their must-see list!

The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo was built entirely with children in mind, from the trash cans to the many rides and every exhibit. The zoo is very small and you can quickly see all the attractions in three or four house, but it is definitely not lacking in things to do. The zoo is divided into four areas - the new African Journey, the Australian Adventure, the Indonesian Rain Forest, and the Central Zoo. Built in a circle, you can see the entire zoo easily by heading in either direction once you enter through the ticket booths.

Typically, when my family and I visit the local Indianapolis Zoo, I spend the entire day lifting my daughters up and down in and out of their stroller to see animals and then it's a challenge to find the animals in the deep cages filled with rocks and trees. However, each of the exhibits at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo is built do small children can easily see from their stroller or on the ground. Many of them are designed long and narrow, so the animals are always in site, usually playfully showing off right in view of their spectators. The adorable otters flip and swirl in the waters below a small waterfall, while nearby the seals race from end to end of a solid glass aquarium. The alligators lurk in murky waters across from the monkeys who are flipping in trees on Monkey Island.
