Chiropractic

Dr. Dennis R. Buckley, DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) specializes in sports medicine, wellness medicine, injury and illness treatment and prevention. A graduate of Los Angeles College of Chiropractic with a BS in 1991, he earned his doctorate in 1993.

He's been a chiropractor for 14 years, having made that life changing decision after an accident that changed his life.

Here is the story in his own words:

"In 1985 while working in the grocery industry I hurt my back. I was incapacitated and my co-workers that morning drove me to the chiropractor. They carried me in and I walked out.

I was also humbled to learn my 25 year old body was more like 50. I had to take better care of myself or this was the preview of coming attractions. Later that year I started running and in 1986 I ran the City of Los Angeles Marathon in 4 hours. I also started in 1985 to go back to school at the urging of a successful relative who encouraged me to find what my life works should be. I did not know at the time.

In November of 1986 my chiropractor who had helped me get better and keep me well while I trained for the marathon asked me what I was going to school for? I wasn't sure so he suggested I look at the chiropractic profession. I did. That afternoon I was visiting Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in Whittier and after seeing, learning and talking to them, it became very clear.

I did not choose the chiropractic profession, it was choosing me. The back injury introduced me to chiropractic, going back to school stimulated my search for my life work, and running the marathon gave me the confidence that I could accomplish a monumental task.

Not all chiro's are bad, just the experience I had was with a bad one.

One has to be very careful with extensive chiro adjustments of the neck. I know, because a chiropractor injured my neck, and it has never been the same. I also have some arthritis in my spine from the adjustments. But i think mine was excessive, and obviously bad. Accupuncture is fantastic though, and very safe, regardless, as long as the person is experienced and uses brand new needles!
