One person within or related to the company would have the arduous task of cold calling these businesses to offer the discount coupons to their employees, and one year I was offered that task. I needed the money, and I reluctantly took my ex husband up on this offer. After my experience I decided it was a task I never wanted to do again. It's amazing how rude fellow business people can be when they're called on the phone, even when attempting to give them something for free. The coupons were a valuable addition to a pay envelope, and they cost money to print and mail, but many who would have used these coupons weren't allowed to have them for petty and callous reasons.
Scripted Calling
When making my business promotion calls for K's Merchandise, I soon realized I couldn't use the script they devised. The beginning of the spiel sounded too much like a sales pitch, and it would surely invoke rude replies right off the bat. I came up with my own script, and it immediately explained I was calling from K's Merchandise in Fort Wayne, to offer free coupons that could be passed out to employees. Anything else would have received rude responses before I would even get a third of the way through the script, and even still, I received some very rude replies.

Did You Know?
People are so quick to attack callers they don't know, and they assume they're selling something. Listen before you speak, or you might miss out on something of real value. It doesn't pay to be rude!
